Ginger Creams

 

 

makes 4 dozen

 

 

I make these for Xmas. I like them a whole lot better than gingerbread.

Ingredients 

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup shortening or butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp ginger
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp each, nutmeg, ground cloves, & cinnamon
  • Vanilla butter frosting (recipe follows)

Directions

Preheat the oven to 400°F

 

Cream sugar, shortening, egg, molasses & water together in a mixer. Stir in the rest. Drop by round teaspoons 2” apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake until almost no indentation remains when touched, about 8 minutes. Cool. Frost.

 

Vanilla Butter Frosting

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tbl. milk

 

Beat all ingredients together.
