I needed something off the beaten path, with a little bit of big city. I booked a fulled guided 8 day winter hike/walk of the Nakasendō trail in Japan.
The Nakasendō was the route made by the Samurai for travel between Kyoto and Edo (today Tokyo). The Edo period was 1603 – 1868. Feudal lords reigned. Think Shōgun, the recent and long ago TV series.
It was an incredible trip with a fabulous guide: Tomo-san. She was always happy and had several issues to deal with along the way. She did so with aplomb.
