a sybarite in paradise
reviewing the food & entertainment pleasures of Honolulu

I love living close to the best Indian restaurant on Oahu, Cafe Maharani. However, they’re not open for lunch. India Bazaar Madras Curry, which is also close by, to the rescue. I’ve eaten here twice now and can only give it an OK rating. I had the Chicken Plate ($7.25) which comes with rice, two vegetarian sides and the chicken. I picked the spicy tofu side and the spicy lentil side. Neither were very spicy. They were OK, but nothing special. The chicken however was the star of the plate. It was tender, juicy and nicely spiced with a good hot kick that grew out of nowhere. I must say the portions are nice and the rice was also good. I just wish that it was a bit more like the restau
rants I encountered last year in Suva, Fiji. They were set up in much the same manner, but had a much wider range and the food was better. But then, they have a large community to serve. I will visit again as I want to try the samosas, which looked crunchy and delicious.
