a sybarite in paradise
reviewing the food & entertainment pleasures of Honolulu

Ron and Tim introduced me to this place a year or so ago. I’ve been meaning to try it again and finally got around to it today for lunch. This is the former site of Teddy’s Bigger Burgers and inside much looks the same. I think there must be a ghost here that demands all sandwiches at this location must be delicious drippy messes. Teddy’s burgers at this location were always juicy, requiring several napkins. In reality, it’s run by Teddy’s spouse Linda Gehring.

Today I had the Cajun seasoned Mahi Sandwich($6.50). It was excellent. The house made cibatta roll was toasted, yet soft. The mahi was grilled perfectly with a hearty amount of Cajun seasoning. That was offset by the South Shore Grill’s signature topping: cole slaw. Yes, they put the slaw on the sandwich. It’s an inspiration that I was dubious of at first, but really does work well. Ripe tomatoes (a rarity these days) and lettuce finished off the toppings. Several napkins later, I was quite satisfied. I must remember to go back and try the other things on the menu. I’ve heard the fish tacos are great. They’ve got burgers, burritos and salads too. Oh my!
